Agency Love Letter

GLOW FYI, you’ve been added as a maker of Agency Love Letter on @ProductHunt https://t.co/fpfM6MCd3u h/t @peterlevin 🙌

— Product Hunt (@ProductHunt) February 19, 2019

I saw this post a couple of weeks ago on Twitter and promised myself to write about it because the execution was so unique. A New York City-based agency known as Glow wanted to provide an anonymous way for people to share their feelings about their ad business clients. Therefore, they created a website to allow users to write nice - or not so nice - anonymous letters to their clients and agencies.

Conspiracy Behind 'Elevator' Super Bowl Ad

Every year a week after the Super Bowl there seems to be some controversy with a commercial that turns into an advertising industry conspiracy theory. This year is no exception. We are all familiar with the Hyundai commercial created by Innocean where Jason Bateman, the star of Netflix original show “Ozarks” plays the operator of an elevator from hell, taking unfortunate passengers to all sorts of awful places like jury duty and a vegan dinner party before they saw the white light in the form of Hyundai’s Shopper Assurance service. See the ad below, it was featured in Inside That Ad’s 2019 Super Bowl Central.

Officially ITA's First Movie Trailers

Back in 2015, I announced that I would like ITA to get into movie trailers but after that post, which you can read right here, I dropped the subject. I haven’t thought about it again until I received my new MoviePass card last week. Therefore, I want to try again. Without further ado, the first trailer I want to share with you is for Molly’s Game.

The movie is about Molly Bloom, a business savvy, former athlete who set up and ran a high stake poker game for actors, business tycoons, and star athletes. I’m sharing the trailer first because I love poker and anything about the subject as well as the fact that it is the first movie I saw using the MoviePass card I told you about above. More importantly, I would like to know what you all, the audience want to get out of a blog post discussing a movie trailer?  For me, I just wanted a way to track the different movies that I go to on a weekly basis. This is still primarily an advertising blog, which is why I will only discuss movies with respect to their trailers.

Agencies Helping Agencies

Why doesn’t Wieden + Kennedy/Portland spawn more startup agencies—something that Goodby Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco has successfully done for years? As someone who knows the Portland market, lack of client opportunities is the most obvious answer.

Leather and Cookies by Axe

Way back in the 1970s, a team at Ogilvy came up with the timeless phrase “Two great tastes that taste great together.”

That classic bit of copywriting described the irresistible combination of chocolate and peanut butter in Reese’s cups. But it could apply to almost any two seemingly incongruous flavors, smells or other sensations, including … leather and cookies?

Since its 1984 debut, Axe has given the teenage boys of the world many classic bodywash and bodyspray scents, including Africa, Anti-Hangover and Denim. But this new product may be its oddest yet. The Unilever brand turned to German creative agency Dokyo to help promote the impossible combination of Leather + Cookies, and they did not disappoint.

What Happened to agencycompile.com?

AgencyCompileAgencycompile.com has changed significantly since the last time I tried to use it seriously back when I was living in Boston. I wanted to ask the community out there, why this change happened? What you guys think about it? Do you guys the site got better or worse since making the transformation?

I remember it as being a simple website, with a plain look, feel and login that was very appealing to me. That appeal stemmed from knowing of a site where I can look up agencies based on size, specialty, billing ranges and most importantly to me location so that I can submit my resume to open positions. Now, the site doesn’t appear to be so simple to navigate through. It has so many sections and functioned very poorly while I was trying to use it in Google Chrome that I’m surprised no one else has complained. Furthermore, I submitted another registration form and tried to contact some sort of support department because I wasn’t getting the confirmation email to complete the registration to allow me to use the site but I haven’t heard anything back. Has anyone else experienced the same type of problem?

Droga5's 'Recalling 1993' Project Turns NYC Pay Phones Into Geo-Located Time Capsules

Agency and client have launched “Recalling 1993,” offering a raw, unfiltered listen to what was going on around New York City 20 years ago. The campaign turns pay phones into geo-located time capsules—dial (855) FOR-1993 from any pay phone in Manhattan, and you will hear a personal account of what was going down in that particular area in 1993, a pivotal year in the city’s history. The recordings offer memories of everything from the World Trade Center bombing in the Financial District to the club culture at Limelight in Chelsea to the opening of Angels in America in Midtown.

Thanks for the “Likes” by Domino's

Domino’s, a company that doesn’t usually use the literal meaning of its name very often in advertising did so, recently. A video from Crispin Porter + Bogusky, the company’s ad agency shows 8 million dominos knocked down as a thank you to their Facebook fans for all the “Likes.” Check out the video after the jump.

Here is my question, are the 50 thousand fans really fans of the brand? Or has getting likes basically become a numbers game for advertisers? I only ask because I am not sure why they are only thanking their Facebook fans?
